PowerMizer Effects on Gaming
Let’s see how PowerMizer affects game performance.
In FEAR the GeForce Go 7900 GS sheds 30 FPS (or 56%) going from Performance to Balanced, and a further 15 FPS (or 84% of total) going to Power Save. The GeForce Go 7900 GTX doesn’t fair very well either with 64% drop in frame rates from Performance to Balanced, and whopping 86% drop total from Performance to Power Save.
Either way, Balanced profile does not provide enough performance to play this game on either the GeForce Go 7900 GTX or GS. So your only real bet is to reduce the details when unplugged, or play when you’re plugged in.
A similar effect is seen in Half-Life 2: The Lost Coast — neither the GS nor GTX is able to run the game smoothly at our preferred settings in anything less than Performance mode. If you’re on the road and not near an outlet, best to drop your details in games or find a plug if you get a gaming itch.
Taking a closer look, the GS drops less (53%) of its frames relative to the GTX (62%) going from Performance to Balanced.
