Internal and Upgrading Parts
The Asus W2J we are reviewing comes with a Core Duo T2500 2.0 GHz CPU, a 1.0 GB RAM made by Nanya, and a 100 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hitachi Travelstar hard drive.
The factory installed RAM is locked inside the casing of the W2J, so it’s not accessible through normal means. There is however a free SODIMM slot you can use for upgrading via the bottom of the laptop.
The hard drive is located under a larger cover which was very difficult to open. After some prying with a plastic card, I managed to get the cover removed. Tugging the tab towards the front of the laptop releases the drive, and you’re left with a typical 2.5′ SATA drive.
Under the larger cover on the base of the W2J is the CPU and fan unit. The CPU is user upgradable but a ‘Warranty Void if Removed’ sticker covers the screws to make it amply clear what the consequences are.
Finally, there is an expansion slot used for the AverMedia TV Tuner under the last cover.
