3DMark06

The new Futuremark 3DMark06 benchmark was released just a few months ago and has already become a popular test for GPU benchmarks and CPUs as well.  You can see my full overview of the new benchmark, what it has to offer over the 2005 version and some other initial scores from my previous article

In our default 3DMark06 results, the X1950 Pro takes a performance lead of under 10% on the XFX 7900 GS card and 49% on the X1800 GTO card.  The feature tests show the 7900 GS and the X1950 Pro to be nearly equals on pixel shading and vertex shading tests, while the fill rate results give a big win to NVIDIA’s card.  That fill rate bandwidth is wasted though if the GPU can’t process enough pixels to output at that level.

Again, the CrossFire setup sees very good gains in our 3DMark06 benchmark and feature tests; a score of 8526 offers a 67% increase over a single X1950 Pro.
