Synthetic CPU Tests

SiSoft Sandra 2007.SP1

We ran the standard SiSoft Sandra synthetic processor test.

ScienceMark 2.0 BLAS Test

This test from the ScienceMark 2.0 suite does matrix multiplies very quickly in order to find the top MFLOPS (millions of floating point operations per second).  SGEMM runs them in single precision and DGEMM runs them in double precision.

Our first set of benchmarks is a bit odd looking at first, but after some thought characterizes what we will see through out our test suite in terms of benchmark results.  The Sandra results clearly show an advantage to the quad-core QX6700 processor over the E6700, with scores MORE than 100% faster in both ALU and FPU math.  In our two ScienceMark 2.0 tests though, while the QX6700 still definitely is faster than the AMD FX-62, it is slower than the E6700.

The reasons for this are pretty complicated, but we’ll look into further in our conclusions page.
