Upgrade Process
Going from a base Windows XP installation (though SP2 is REQUIRED to start the Vista upgrade) to a Vista installation was pretty quick and painless.

Here is my basic Windows XP Professional SP2 installation…time to upgrade!

Popping the Vista disc into the DVD drive brings up a menu where you can start the install or check for the Vista-readiness of your system.

Our first warning — some of our components and software applications may not work with Vista! Yeah, yeah…but make sure you are checking for drivers like printers and network cards before going through with the installation.

The menus during the upgrade process (which starts up after some file copies and a reboot) are exactly the same as the clean installation.

The same performance testing is still required during the first boot up of the newly installed Vista OS.

And now we are presented with the same Vista desktop and configuration that we saw during the clean install.
