Installation
For this review, I will be using an AMD Athlon 64 CPU with the stock AMD K8 retention bracket. The CPU IHS and heatsink base were cleaned with Isopropyl alcohol before applying a small amount of Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound and installing the heatsink.
Installation on my test system was very easy and straight forward. The K8 clips engage the center two lugs and lock into place with twist of the black plastic lever. As is frequently the case with AMD systems, positioning the Chilly Vent on a K8/AM2 motherboard is determined by how your particular motherboard is laid out. However this situation is minimized because the overall shape of the cooler is square and the airflow is directed down.
On the Asus K8N-E Deluxe test bed, the Chilly Vent Lux easily cleared all of the surrounding components in the CPU socket area.
Note: The Chilly Vent Lux does not come with a fan guard installed on the fan so be careful when installing this cooler that no stray wires get caught in the fan blades.
