Conclusions

Overall, the BFG Tech 1,000 watt power supply proved to be an interesting mix of performance and features.  On the plus side, the DC outputs are strong, load regulation is good, the gloss black finish and sleeved cables look very nice, and a Lifetime Warranty is hard to beat!  The BFG 1kW PSU also delivers a lot of power in a small package at an affordable price!  On the down side, the AC ripple is too high under heavy loads, the efficiency doesn’t meet the current minimum recommendations, and the power supply is noisy when operated above 60% of its rated capacity.

BFG Tech states right on the box that the BFG 1,000 watt power supply is intended for power users.  Unfortunately, some power users may not be happy with this PSU if they expect to push it towards the high end of its rated capacity.  In reality though, even a high end gaming system with two 8800 video cards isn’t likely to pull more than 600W, which the BFG Tech 1kW can certainly handle.  So the majority of gamers who aren’t as concerned with fan noise may find this unit quite appealing.

The MSRP for the BFG Tech 1000 watt Power supply is $349.99 USD but you can find it selling online for $229 to $279 USD.  Newegg.com has the unit for sale as of this publishing for $288.
