Heat and Weight
The Asus G2 runs fairly hot even while idling – the CPU and hard drive are close to 50C! When loaded, the CPU jumps 15C to 62C which isn’t too bad since the hottest I’ve seen a mobile CPU was 69C on the Asus VX1.
The body exhibits some hot spots, notably 30C temperatures on the left-hand bottom and the middle of the keyboard. The Asus G2 is very warm, so I suggest using it on a solid flat surface.
At 9.4 lbs, the Asus G2 is the heaviest 17″ notebook we have tested at the lab, and undoubtedly this is because of the metal used in the G2’s lid. The other 17″ systems we have reviewed in the past used mostly plastic, so Asus gets props for using premium materials for the body.
