Exterior Details (Cont’d)

The two side panels are mirror images of each other and feature two circular vent openings machined into the backside of thick aluminum extrusions.  Three of the openings let fresh room air into the case while one is fitted with an exhaust fan to blow warm air out.  The design of the side panels is both functional and attractive.

(Left side)

The rear opening on the left side panel lets air in to cool the expansion cards in the PCI/PCI-E slot area.  The front opening is fitted with a 92mm exhaust fan, which helps cool the HDD cage while exhausting warm air from the case.

(Right side)

The rear opening on the right side lets air in to cool the power supply (if the power supply has a bottom mounted intake fan and is positioned in that direction).  The front opening lets air in around the optical drive cage.

Moving around to the rear of the HD160XT enclosure reveals a typical ATX layout that could just as easily be found on a mid-tower case.  The HD160XT accepts a standard, full size ATX power supply.  The internal LCD monitor cable exits the case thru a pre-installed PCI slot bracket.  A sturdy, nickel-plated steel bracket surrounds the I/O shield and expansion slot area.

The two 80mm Zalman labeled rear exhaust fans (ZF8025ASH) incorporate sleeve bearings and are capable at running reliably at either 12V or 5V.  All of the bundled fans are capable of moving a lot of air for outstanding case cooling when operating at full speed, at the expense of noise.  However, using the included fan speed control software allows each user to find the right balance between cooling performance and fan noise.

A large rectangular vent is located towards the back of the top cover, over the CPU area.  This vent can be opened or closed by loosening four screws and sliding the baffle plate to adjust the airflow.

The included remote control is intended primarily for use with Windows MCE to enable multimedia software operation and control.  The bundled M-Play Zini software suite also takes full advantage of the remote and adds more functionality.  The IR receiver is located on the front panel to the left of the LCD and is supplied with power even when the computer is turned off.
