3DMark is a useful tool in giving a normalized result that could be used to compare different GPUs to each other.
The XPS M1710 appears to out perform the Alienware m9700 with two 7900 GS GPUs in SLI.
High level shaders, 2x Anisotropic filtering, 2xAntialising.
In Prey, the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX shows its substance by posting results slightly faster than the older 7900 GTX, but still far from the 7900 GS SLI in the Alienware m9700.
Clearly something isn’t right. Half-Life 2 runs very slow when it should be placing results in the 50-55 FPS range. Could it be a driver issue? Unfortunately I did not find a solution to this issue in time for publishing this article.
