Final Thoughts and Conclusions
The Zalman ZM-MFC2 is an elegant multi-function controller that allows setting and monitoring the speed of multiple fans, monitoring four channels of temperature and displaying real-time system power consumption. The unit is very attractive and easy to install.
While the accuracy of the displayed fan speeds and temperatures are very good for all channels, the real time power monitoring feature proved much less accurate. I was also disappointed to find that the ZM-MFC2 can not be programmed to control fan speed based on an assigned temperature.
The MSRP for the Zalman ZM-MFC2 multi fan controller is $69.99 USD but our friends at Sharka Computers have it available for $64.95.
Strengths:
- Flexible monitoring and control of multiple fans (standard and PWM)
- Audible alarm sounds if any fan stops operating
- Four sensors for monitoring temperature
- Real time display of approximate AC power consumption
- Easy to install and setup
- Stylish design, looks great!
Weaknesses:
- No automatic fan speed control based on temperature
- Real time AC power monitoring not very accurate
- Standard USB connector used for CVS interface (too risky)
If you are in the market for an elegant fan speed controller that also provides temperature monitoring and an approximate real time power usage display, then the Zalman ZM-MFC2 may just be what you are looking for. It looks fantastic and for the most part is very functional. Just don’t expect too much from the power monitoring feature.
I would like to thank our friends at Zalman USA and Sharka Computers for sending us the ZM-MFC2 to review – thanks!
