We used SiSoft Sandra XI, Everest 2006 and Cinebench 9.5 to measure and compare the CPU performance of the two notebook computers. Remember that the Toshiba is running Windows Vista Home Premium and the Dell is running Windows XP Professional. The Toshiba has an Intel Core 2 DuoT5300 (1.73 GHz) and the Dell has the Intel Core Duo T2600 (2.16 GHz).
The Satellite actually held its own in the Sandra XI testing.
In this test we start to see the Dell edge out the Toshiba.
When we use Everest 2006 to measure the FPU of the two computers, we start to see the real power of the Dell come through. The Dell outperformed the Toshiba in every test by a large margin.
The Cinebench testing revealed the advantage of the Core 2 Duo CPU on the Toshiba notebooke.
The CPU in the Toshiba being slower surprisingly held its own when compared to the Dell. The Dell really shines in the FPU area and the Toshiba did really well when we looked at the CPU power of the multi CPU. The architecture of the Core 2 Duo platform obviously holds some advantages over the older Core Duo one even when running at a much lower frequency (on the Toshiba) than its competitor.
