A Closer Look (Outside)

Now begins the look at the outside of the Cosmos 1000 — an area where Cooler Master’s cases have usually performed very well!

The majority of the outside of the case is made of aluminum and is of the brushed variety.  The black areas along the top are flat plastic black while the front and top connections area is plastic with a faux-piano finish.  You can see that the mirroring affect is pretty apparent on the front door, for example.

A closer look at just the top portion reveals a pair of bars that span the length of the case on either side of it.  These would traditionally be used as handles.  There are two identical bars along the bottom of the case that are used as the “legs” of the case as nothing but the bars will touch the ground.

The connections area of the case is placed along the top for easy access; users that frequently use the top of their cases as shelves might find it a bit of a pain — but it’s time to get organized!  There are four USB 2.0 ports, a single FireWire 400 port and an eSATA port for external storage or accessories.  You’ll also see there is a headphone and microphone jack, hard drive and power lights and finally, a power and reset button.  The only issue I might see here is the accidental pressing of the reset button when adding or removing a USB device.

The sides of the Cosmos 1000 look very clean and obviously don’t have any windows or fan inlets/outlets.  The brushed aluminum finish looks really good, but of course this is dependent on your own personal preference.
