NV 8800 GTS 640MB DX9 Results
As I mentioned before, Jeremy’s testing was a little bit different than mine as he didn’t use the same fly-by demo script and instead used the preferred method of actually playing the game and recording some data using Fraps.  Jeremy’s testing included resolutions of 1024×768 and 1280×960 without AA, with 8xAA and with 8xQ AA – a good mix of IQ enhancements at the card level.  Jeremy didn’t run at Very High settings but did run both Medium and High so we can see what the performance drop between those levels looks like as well.

Also because Jeremy used Fraps, we have our usual time-based graphs along with the bar graphs with minimum, maximum and average listed.

At medium in-game settings, Crysis is still a bit of a hog on the test system bringing in just over 42 average FPS without AA.  When 8xAA is enabled we saw a 44% drop in average frame rate but only a couple of frames per second fall in the minimum frame rate.  Still, dropping below 30 FPS is a bit of a stretch for playability in our book.

With Jeremy’s system, the move to High IQ settings dropped the average frame rate without AA to 33.1 – a drop of 27% from the Medium settings used in the first set of graphs.  On a good note though, the move to 8xAA only dropped the results by about 37% versus the 44% it did at Medium settings.  Again, playing at 1024×768 at High without AA looks to be the top configuration here for 8800 GTS 640MB owners.
