Under the Hood

Here are a few pictures showing the layout and components inside the Turbo-Cool 1200W power supply.  As you can see, there is little wasted space inside the enclosure.  The overall layout appears to be very good with well defined paths for airflow.

As with previous Turbo-Cool models, PC Power & Cooling is using Win-Tact as their OEM for the Turbo-Cool 1200W PSU.  PC Power & Cooling has maintained a long-standing, exclusive partnership with Win-Tact at both the engineering and manufacturing levels.  PC Power & Cooling claims 100% ownership of the designs, tooling, safety certifications, product rights, and distribution rights.  So don’t get the idea you’re going to find the same PSU somewhere else with a different name on it; you won’t.

The Turbo-Cool 1200W PSU is based on a unique new design.  It uses two 600W modular power supply boards mounted side by side behind a common primary section.   Each secondary module produces 12VDC (50A per module) with the outputs connected in parallel (100A total).  Additional circuits on the main PCB and riser card produce the -12V, +3.3V and +5V outputs from +12V.  The +5VSB output is produced independently on the main PCB.

We have seen a major shift in the last few years away from heavy loads on the +3.3V and +5V rails with larger demands now being placed on the +12V outputs.  In response to this trend, PC Power & Cooling designed the new Turbo-Cool 1200W power supply with an emphasis on the +12V section.  The Turbo-Cool 1200W is essentially a big +12V power supply with added circuits to produce the auxiliary voltages (+3.3V, +5V and -12V).  This unique design offers great flexibility to the end user.  Essentially all of the 1200W output capacity can be delivered to the +12V outputs if the +3.3V and +5V rails are only minimally used.  This should also make the Turbo-Cool 1200W PSU virtually immune to potential cross-loading problems.
