“Although a die-shrink to 45 nm will not give the new Yorkfield and Wolfdale processors any real performance advantage, it allows Intel to fit a larger L2 cache and yet keep the size down. It will also allow these processors to run faster and cooler.”Here are some more Processor articles from around the web:

Shrinkage and growth
The new chips from Intel will be on 45nm technology which will help with the heat, but doesn’t actually provide anything in the way of a performance benefit. What you can expect to give you a bit of a boost, for the Yorkfield a roughly 5-10% increase based on TechARP’s findings, is the increase cache size. The Wolfdale provide’s a huge improvement over Prescott, as you can see in the full review.
