Map: Heat Ray Performance
Our first results show that at 1600×1200, all three cards are capable of playing UT3 with all the goodies turned on. The 8800 GTX has best minimum framerate but you can see that both of the other cards didn’t hit their lows very often. Again, because of the 60 FPS lock on the demo, the game is an equalizer for top end card performance.
As we increase the resolution one jump up to 2048×1536, the Heat Ray map starts to create some pressure on the graphics cards. The 8800 GTX is still the best option here with an average still near 60 FPS and the AMD HD 2900 XT is next in line with an average of about 50 FPS. The 8800 GTS 640MB card is a bit slower, 12% behind the HD 2900 XT.
At the top resolution for our gaming monitor, the Dell 30″, the 8800 GTX extends its advantage over the HD 2900 XT by 32% or so while NVIDIA’s 8800 GTS 640MB is a bit slower than AMD’s card here.
