Map: Heat Ray Performance (cont’d)
Even though I put the 8800 GTS 320MB card in the class with the 8600 GTS and the HD 2600 XT for spacing concerns, it’s obviously a class above the other two here. It is able to push the 1600×1200 resolution test at full speed without a problem to the 60 FPS lock. The same cannot be said for the other two; the 8600 GTS outpaces the HD 2600 XT by a small amount, but both are playable at this resolution.
I don’t think that users are going to be happy with the experience of playing UT3 at 2048×1536 with the 8600 GTS or HD 2600 XT with all the eye candy turned on. The 8800 GTS 320MB doesn’t have a problem at all with that resolution though.
Alternatives for 8600/2600 users is to limit it to the 1280×1024 resolution or turn some eye candy down just a bit.
