Spiders!!!
The Intel Skulltrail will probably beat the pants off of any AMD Spider platform you can build, but on the other hand Gigabyte’s GA-MA790FX-DQ6 will only set you back about $300, half the price of the Skulltrail motherboard. It will also be much easier to find, as it is not limited to 2000, total. [H]ard|OCP checks out this Spider platform board and it’s 2 pair of PCI Express slots, a x16 pair and an x8 pair, which will do either x16, 16×16 or 8x8x8x8 if you go all out and pick up 4 graphics cards. Once again, we see that if anything is holding back the performance of AMD platforms, it’s not the chipsets on their boards.
