I have the extreme pleasure in posting an interview with a member who is a first class guy as well as a retired (no, no…not retarded ) Mod, and one of the founding fellows here: Tigsman. I can only say this, Ron was instrumental in helping me feel welcome here and to try my hand at doing more than lurking around. This place truly wouldn’t have been nor could have continued to be what it is without him. OK, OK, enough outta me, let him tell his story.

Hi there. Let me take a minute to introduce myself. I’m Uncle Bob, a Mod here at PC Perspective. We will be running a series of articles within the forum that will be called Mod Interviews. I ask revealing, embarrassing, stupid, probing questions of Mods as well as members and hopefully you get to laugh with us at ourselves and in the process get to know some of us better. Beware, not all these folks are as forthcoming as you may like, I do my best to uncover the truth, but haven’t always hit the mark!

1. I realize many of the mods here are in a witness protection program of some sort, but can you give us your real name?
Im happy to say Ron Goldin, but many folks knew that already

2. Why did you join PCPer/AMDMB?
Honestly, I was looking to upgrade my old k6/2-266. I was um…dumb enough to buy an Asus A7a266 motherboard, nearly the worst board I’ve ever seen and needd help. I found it here in the Asus forum.

3. Which forums do you frequent the most?
I have not been very active lately due to my Second Life (online game), but when I stop by I check out the cooling forum, cause I gotta see if Powerhungry has posted any words of wisdom. I also check out the Off Topic forum to see what all the buzz is that I missed since my last visit and I stop into TLR to see wht in god’s name everyone is fighting about this week.

4.Why do you keep coming back?
The peeps. Unique individuals all with awesome personalities. Gotta love the reviews too, I need my fix of those too and there is no place else to get ’em that I trust.

5.What was your first experience with a computer?
LOL.. ok, timeto show my age, MY first pc was a Tandy Model 1 circa 1978. My first EXPERIENCE with a computer was on dad’s lap several years earlier while he worked on a Datapoint 8080 at Citicorp Center in NYC.

6.Do you prefer to be called a “geek” or a “nerd”?
Geek, cmon man, who wants to be called a nerd. They need to get a life.

7.What do you do like to do the most here at PC Perspective?
Shh.. dont tell Kristie.. gotta check out the babe threads man.

8.What do you like most about PC Perspective?
The community bud, its a place to call home, always has been, always will be. I still talk about my experiences here to this day in my real life. Very fun times for me. I learned a lot here and I hope I was able to help a few folks along the way too.

9.OK, we all know this is coming…What do you like least about your PC Perspective?
The loss of the AMD centric site. I know it had to happen as this stie needed to grow beyond that phase of being an AMD specific site, but it still lost a bit of an edge for me. Dont get me wrong, I still come here for ALL of my pc needs, especially AMD related stuff. But it took a little bit of time to get used to.

10.How long have you been active in PC Perspective?
Well, I havent been all that active lately due to my RL work, my Second Life and a second commitment to another website related to that game too.

]11.Where are most active here? What is it you suppose that draws you to that particular area?
I would say, when I post, its in Off Topic most of the time now.

12.What interests do you have outside of PC Perspective. Don’t be shy, if you don’t have a life outside of here, many readers would like to know!
Well, as I already mentioned, I play Second Life a lot, albeit mostly work related now. But I still manage some time to have fun with Kristie.

13.OK, it’s hardware time! Let’s start with your most, or current favorite piece of hardware. Tell us about it.
lol.. thats easy, but the AMDers aint gonna like it, cause it aint AMD but here goes. IBM Thinkpad Z61m, hang on.. IBM is good about providing specs online, let me get ’em.

Product: ThinkPad Z61m 9450-36U

Original description: T2300E(1.66GHz), 512MB RAM, 100GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1680×1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, IEEE 1394, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

BTW, the system was purchased with a 512mb upgrade, that is not reflected here, so it has 1GB ram.

14.Software? Hey, if you are a closet Linux user, now’s the time to come out. (If you are a closet Microsoft user, don’t be afraid, we can keep a secret!)
I use Microshaft products, I admit, cause most of the world does, but then again, I work for a call center, so its my job too.

15.OK, let’s get real personal. Witness Protection Program be damned…Can you tell us something about yourself you’d like us to know?
I know wbrules knows this, but I’m a trekkie, big time. Got memoribilia all over my house. I love it, Kristie deals with it LOL. And yes wb, Spock is STILL standing next to my front door hehe

16.What can you tell us about your job? Hey, if you do something illegal, now’s a good enough time as any to make a clean start!
Senior Supervisor for IBM Thinkpad support, like there was surprise in that.

17.Where do you live? (Be fearless, your secret is safe with us..)
Hotlanta, so hot, we had virutally no snow this year and are already in a severe drought, lucky us.

18.What can you tell us about your family??
Kristie, my wife, y’all know here as Tigress is still alive and well and still loving me as much as I love her. Happily married for over 7 years now. For those that don’t know, we met online. No, not on AMDMB.com silly, on IRC actually. The first day of spring 1997 was the first time we spoke on the phone. Now here’s showing age again, back when long distance was on sale with Sprint for ONLY 10cents/minute. HAHAHA.

19.Here’s a delicate one…How old are you and where did you grow up?
I am now the big 40. Yikes. Yup, I somehow lived to be 40, not sure how though, when I was 21 I SWORE up and down I wouldn’t last this long, so Im kinda stunned myself to be honest. As for my youth, One word, Joisey. ‘Nuff said.

20.Well, we are getting to the end of it, it’ll all be over soon, I promise. What you would like to say to our forum members, go ahead anything. Get it off your chest. We have all day here….
Well, uh ..ok.. hmm.. odd question.. I’d like to say Howdy y’all. I miss these folks a lot. I got to know a lot of peeps when I was still an admin here. Peeps I dont get to see too often and barely ever talk to anymore. I miss that part of my old job. But hey, I had a blast anyway and Im glad I had the pleasure of meeting so so so many fine folks. I made a lot of friends here and Im glad I had the opportunity to be a friend to some of y’all. PCP is still the place to be. If its PC related and you’re looking for a real Perspective on it, this is the place to come to for it, hands down!
