AMD Phenom X4 9850 Processor Review – Long Awaited B3

Obviously the faster memory controller and tighter memory timings of the new Phenom X4 9850 processor give it a noticeable boost over the other Phenom CPUs and put it even above the Intel Q9450 processor. 


Unfortunately, that trend is reversed here where the new X4 9850 is slower than the Intel CPU.



In our Handbrake test the Phenom X4 9850 falls in line with the 9600 and 9900 in terms of results based on the raw 2.5 GHz clock rate and isn’t able to keep up with the Intel Q9450.


Again we see an instance where B3 Phenom 9850 isn’t as fast as the previous Phenom processors – this is probably due to the memory controller being set to unganged which is more biased towards multi-threaded applications than single / dual.
