Unlike the ASUS U6S that had discrete graphics in it, I had no preconditions on the U2E as far as gaming performance was concerned.  And it’s a good thing to – the score of 385 is pretty bad for 3DMark06, but as I would hope users would gather before seeing these results is that this notebook is not in any way intended for gaming on the go.  Solitaire and Peggle, sure.  Call of Duty 4, not so much.

Our PCMark05 results might be more important for users that will be using the ASUS U2E for a productivity task like Office or basic image editing.  The score of 2825 is again nothing to write home about but the CPU and memory performance should be high enough for the basic usage models of an ultra-mobile notebook user.  The HDD score is really impressive thanks to the raw speed of SSD drives.

When talking about ultra-mobile notebooks perhaps the most important feature is the systems weight.  Since the ASUS U2E comes with two different batteries we’ll look at both its weight and battery life under both scenarios.  The weight of just the body of the U2E is a svelte 2.5 lbs and with the smaller 3-cell battery still only weighs 3.0 lbs!  The much larger 9-cell battery pushes that up to 3.7 lbs; still well below the 4.0 lbs mark that is the pseudo-indicator of an ultra-portable notebook.  The power brick adds another 0.8 pounds to the total package and even then it is a full pound lighter than the ASUS U6S.
