Performance Tests and Weight
For a performance comparison to the ASUS U6S, I decide to compare it to my personal work notebook, the HP n6400 laptop based around a Core 2 Duo T7200 processor with integrated Intel GMA graphics. The HP system is quite a bit bigger, it has a 14″ screen and weighs more than a full pound extra.Despite what you might initially think with the ASUS U6S sporting a discrete NVIDIA 8400M graphics chip, this notebook isn’t going to be breaking out any high resolution gaming any time soon. However, the overall system performance is pretty impressive thanks to the powerful Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of DDR2-667 memory.
Despite the fact that the ASUS U6S sports the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GPU in it, its really not much faster than the HP nc6400 notebook that I use for work that only has Intel integrated graphics. The HP is a bit faster in the CPU portion of the test though, with its T7200 processor, which is also a bit surprising.
Obviously, even with the advertised discrete graphics on the U6S, this is NOT a gaming machine by any stretch of the imagination. You can get away with some older, less intense DX8 or DX9 gaming probably but I’d leave the DX10 spec of the 8400M GPU to waste.

No the PCMark05 results show a MUCH better picture of the ASUS ultra-mobility machine! The overall score, as well as the memory and graphics results, show a clear win for ASUS over the HP nc6400 part we are comparing it to. The CPU and hard drive scores are nearly identical though. Consider that the U6S is a much smaller form factor than the HP model, these performance numbers are great to see and will surely allow road warriors and students more than enough juice to get any of their productivity or moderate multimedia work done.
The ASUS U6S is labeled as an ultra-mobile PC and the weight class is clearly met by the results we measured here. The body alone of the U6S comes in at 3.2 lbs though with the battery (which you would surely always have) you are up to just over 4 lbs. In comparison, the HP nc6400 notebook comes in at 5.5 lbs total. Adding in the AC power adapter, which you will also probably carry with you, the ASUS U6S is going to at about 5.5 lbs to your fight weight.
