SwordM Case – External View

The new SwordM chassis is a large, full-tower enclosure that stands over 2’ feet high and is a full 30” deep (650mm x 240mm x 770mm). With the wheels installed its 26” high. The SwordM is made almost entirely from extruded aluminum and is hand assembled. The case features a black anodized finish inside and out except for the front bezel and top handles, which are silver (clear anodized, brushed aluminum).

The styling is both attractive and unique. While certainly aggressive, the smooth curves and sleek lines don’t over do it, resulting in a design that is sure to attract attention without being gaudy. The top and bottom visors located on the front of the case bolt on and can be attached or left off if you desire. The bottom visor is rigid and serves as small shelf but the top visor is actually hinged so it can be raised up out of the way when the optional 7” LCD monitor is in use.

A neatly organized control panel with I/O ports is located in the middle of the front panel. It includes everything you would expect along with eSATA.
• IEEE-1394 Firewire
• (2) USB 2.0
• Headphone
• Microphone
• eSATA (data and power)
• Power LED
• HDD Activity LED
• Reset button
• Main Power On-Off bun
Located above the front control panel are two 5.25” bays, which can be converted to 7” bays by removing the 5.25” bay insert. Below the control panel are four more 5.25” exposed drive bays. Noticeably missing are any exposed 3.5” bays or adapters.

Towards the bottom of the front panel you will find a 120mm intake fan with blue LED lights and a small plastic drawer for storing miscellaneous parts and tools.

One of the SwordM’s more unique features is the convertible top. Pulling two release pins on the back allows the hinged top to automatically raise up, actuated by hydraulically damped spring cylinders. Very cool! The convertible top also features two sculptured aluminum handles to assist in lifting the case that contribute to the unique look of this case. While certainly an awesome, attention-getting feature I was a little disappointed that the top didn’t release and close more smoothly than it did (especially for a hand fit chassis).

As you can see, the convertible aluminum top comes with two 120mm exhaust fans pre-installed and is filled with small slot vent openings. No need to install a custom blow-hole in this case.
