AnandTech has been doing some rather difficult testing of DDR3; by modding an ASUS P5E3 Premium X48-based motherboard.  They were specifically changing the clock signaling and frequency of the crystal oscillators.  This isn’t quite as easy as upping the voltage and reducing the timings without changing MCH clock skew settings, this is some serious overclocking.  The results are very promising as well.

“Samsung is introducing new high speed DDR3 ICs that have been generating a lot of interest at the very high end. Corsair publicized stock and overclocked results with their upcoming CAS 9 spec DDR3-2133 kit recently. These particular speeds are impressive but also left us wondering what the Micron D9JNL part was truly capable of at CAS 8.”
