“DDR3 is finally coming to a price where many mainstream system builders will be willing to pay. Manufacturers must provide mainstream DDR3 solutions to fill in the gap between the high end (and inexpensive) DDR2 and the very expensive, high speed DDR3 modules. While the HyperX line from Kingston may not be the mainstream product, the KHX12800D3K2/2G kit is described as the mainstream overclocking kit. It is far cheaper than speedier kits but lacks the tight timings as well. This could be the kit that kicks off DDR3. ”Here are some more Memory articles from around the web:

Affordable DDR3?

If you are looking for DDR3, but do not want to pay the price that the top of the line DIMMs demand, you could try Kingston’s HyperX 2GB PC3-12800. At 1.9V it will give you a full 1600MHz, but at 2T 9-9-9-27 timings and with a bit of work you can pump it up to 1800MHz, though don’t expect the timings to tighten up very much. Drop by ASE Labs for a look at this kit, which may become very popular soon.
