Did you buy one of the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 or GTX 260 cards when they initially launched?  Did you pay $649 for the GTX 280?  $499 for the GTX 260?  Were you pissed when you found the prices drop to $499 this week?  Well if you bought GTX 200 series cards from XFX, today is really going to be a stellar day for you: XFX is going to help you by giving you free money.

Great news for some GTX 280/260 buyers: cash back! - Graphics Cards 2

Here’s the line from XFX’s website:

Sudden changes in the market have caused the price for the XFX GeForce GTX 280 and the XFX GeForce GTX 260 to drop. As a result, we want to thank you for your continued loyalty and for believing in the XFX brand. And, to show our commitment to you, we are issuing up to $120 CASH BACK to customers who purchased one of these cards between June 16, 2008 and July 11, 2008. The actual amount of cash back will be determined based on the model purchased, as well as the date and price of the purchase.

Yes, it is “up to” $120, but getting a little help from XFX with this is really impressive and should win them some new fans in the enthusiast community.  Will this put pressure on other vendors like BFG or EVGA to match XFX’s generous offer?  I don’t know but I’m sure our readers would like to see it.

I can’t also help but smirk at the idea of XFX sending one large invoice to NVIDIA for a refund for all the money they are giving back to their customers!
