Here are the two modules that fell on the floor. When one of them hit it was at an angle on the corner of the top of the heatsink.
Oh well, no big deal. Wait…
Well….that sucks. Notice the memory chips that are still attached to the heatsink rather than the memory module. Yeah, I’d say this is dead. But at least now we can see the inside of the heatsink design first hand!
On a serious note, this does raise a question for Corsair and their team? Is this supposed to happen? Is the bond between the memory chips and the PCB supposed to be weaker than that between the memory chips and the heatsinks? Obviously that wasn’t the case on these.
Oh well – just a word to wise; try not to drop your expensive memory on anything but carpeted floors.
