3DMark06
The Futuremark 3DMark06 benchmark was released many moons ago and has become a popular test for GPU benchmarks and CPUs as well.  You can see my full overview of the benchmark, what it has to offer over the 2005 version and some other initial scores from my previous article

This is the only area I included some scores from the Radeon HD 3870 512MB card as I happened to have overlapping results from another article.  What I found in our 3DMark06 scores was somewhat surprising – the GeForce 9600 GSO card has quite a bit of a lead on the new HD 4670 from AMD – around 17%.  However, nothing like that was demonstrated in our actually, real world gaming tests and thus we have another mark on why synthetic tests are only useful for certain types of information.

If we take a deeper look at the individual test results you will see how it is the ATI card wins out in the end – it has better performance in the pixel shader, vertex shader and SM3.0 tests when compared to NVIDIA’s 9600 GSO GPU.
