The AMD Radeon HD 4830 512MB Card
The Radeon HD 4830 512MB is really nothing special to look at – it looks just like other recent single-slot graphics cards from the red team.

Single slot design means less space in your case – and it seems they like the color red.

The back of the card looks busy with electronics but doesn’t hold any of the frame buffer or anything on this model.

Just like all AMD graphics cards since the HD 2000-series, the Radeon HD 4830 has support for dual dual-link DVI and also DVI-to-HDMI conversion with the included adapter in retail packaging. There is also an HDTV output between the DVI ports that supports both S-Video and component output with an included dongle.

AMD is unique in that they chose to offer their entire suite of features on ALL of their products: the HD 4830 supports CrossFire configurations with two, three and four GPUs while NVIDIA limits their top-end 3-Way SLI to only a few GPUs.

A single PCIe power connector is required for the HD 4830.

Ripping off the heatsink (but carefully so) reveals the RV770 GPU powering the HD 4830 and the eight memory chips that make up the 512MB frame buffer.

We can see by comparing the chip size of the HD 4830 to the HD 4850/4870 that they are indeed the same GPU – no new designs actually at work here like we saw on the HD 4670 and HD 4550 cards this month.
