External Evaluation
The AVADirect system will look very familiar to anyone who has seen the Cosmos S chassis.
The brushed gunmetal finish on the Cosmos S case is both aggressive and stylish and the bars along both the top and bottom are functional as handles. You see a pair of matching optical drives from Samsung as well as a media card reader in the third 5.25″ slot.
On the component side of the case is a semi-translucent, mesh finished door that allows for massive air intake and is also a good outlet for fancy lighting included on the interior. The white spot on the top right hand location of the door is the Microsoft Vista licensing tag.
On the back of the AVADirect system you can see the power supply is located at the bottom of this design making for improved overall cooling.
Another look at the door reveals the circular pattern on the interior mesh that will allow you to attach a large internal fan to draw air in if you wish – AVADirect did not do so in our sample system.
A close up look at the rear connectors shows all the expected devices: dual Gigabit Ethernet, analog and digital audio output and more. Notice the two black rubber gaskets over the exhaust fan that are in place for any external water cooling you may want to install down the road.
At the top of the case there is a sliding door that reveals a set of 4 USB ports, audio jacks for headphones and microphone, Firewire and even an eSATA connection.
That recessed plastic location in front of the sliding door is in fact a touch-based power button that is kind of cool. Also, with the system powered on you can see the red connection indicators that light up.
At the top of the chassis is a pair of 120mm fans with green LEDs in them.
