Synthetic CPU and Memory Tests

The latest edition of SiSoft Sandra continues on the tradition of testing the purely synthetic power of the processors to see how much performance software developers might be able to pull out of them.

Our synthetic processors tests, both the arithmetic and multimedia tests, show no difference between the new motherboard platforms, as we would expect since only the CPU is being stressed.  The Q9300 responds as well in either the Intel G45 or NVIDIA GF9300 chipset.  The same cannot be said on memory performance though – Intel’s G45 chipset memory controller has a large lead over NVIDIA’s to the tune of 10% or so.  When I asked NVIDIA about the performance delta, their claim was that a feature called “Advance Path” was disabled in all GF9300/9400 motherboards but would be re-enabled via a driver update in the future.

Hopefully we will see that soon as the 10% deficit there is pretty disappointing from outset.
