ASUS has two very different schools of thought when it comes to mobile computing.  On the one hand you have the tiny little Eee PC, which pares down everything it can in the name of extended battery life and lower weight.  Then there is the gaming laptop, like the ASUS G50V series.  Built purely for power, with little thought given to overall weight and battery life.  The model that The Tech Report tested had one drawback, the GeForce 9700M GT that powered the graphics wouldn’t run at 1440×900 and the native screen resolution of 1680×1050 necessitated a drop in some game’s graphic effects settings.

“Asus’ G50V-A1 gaming notebook crams a Core 2 Duo T9400 processor, GeForce 9700M GT graphics, dual hard drives, and a 1680×1050 display into a sturdy chassis with a full-sized keyboard and even a number pad. Read on to see how it performs in the wild.”
