MSI P45 Platinum BIOS
The MSI P45 Platinum BIOS provides about the same amount of overclocking and tweaking tools as the Gigabyte board but does so in a slightly more refined manner.
The hardware monitoring tool in the BIOS is competent and provides information on temperatures, fan speeds, voltages and allows you to set percentage-based fan speeds as well.
MSI calls this screen the “Cell Menu” and this is where all magic happens for overclocking.
The FSB is adjustable up to 800 MHz – still well beyond what anyone in their right mind would want to set it at.
The most popular memory settings can be adjusted here and a quick jump into the “advanced memory setting” will allow you to get into the more detailed timings if you desire.
This option, which is supposed to allow us to adjust the DDR2 memory frequency (actually adjusting the multiplier) is, to put it mildly, confusing. The ratios at the top of the screen relate to how the memory bus speed corresponds to that of the FSB while the bottom numbers are using fixed values for pre-defined memory speeds.
Finally, you can see here that the voltages allowed on the MSI P45 Platinum motherboard are impressively high with as much as 3.24v going to the DDR memory bus if you are feeling gutsy.
