Far Cry 2 includes a great benchmarking utility that allows us to setup for in-game testing of all varieties and includes both the ability to benchmark based on time (variable frame count) or based on speed (fixed frame count) – we went with the time-based option to simulate real-world gaming and allowing for apples-to-apples comparisons.
Though the Radeon HD 4870 X2 is still the best card in our tests, when we look at the new GTX 285 line it continues to impress as being the top single-GPU performer we have seen to date. At 2560×1600 we see an 11% increase in performance over the exiting GTX 280 card and a nearly 19% performance boost over the GTX 260+ from Galaxy.

Thank you for such a comprehensive review! I was having a headache trying to find a graphics card to replace the one that burnt out in my old PC, and for someone who doesn’t know a thing about how such things work this was a hell of a good read. Now, time to find reviews for a new printer too!

With so many graphics cards
With so many graphics cards and drivers coming from Nvidia and Radeon at such a fast rate, it can be hard to keep up with all the changes and updates. It is even harder to decide whether to change to the newer one because of compatibility issues. I think your review really helped me a lot. Thanks!
