Introduction and Features
Cooler Master’s latest UCP series of high-end power supplies incorporate DC to DC converters and solid polymer caps to deliver clean power with high efficiency and low noise. Just what your new build may be looking for!
Cooler Master may be best known for their full line of PC enclosures and cooling accessories but they have recently added three new power supplies to their Ultimate Circuit Protection (UCP) series; with output capacities of 700W, 900W and 1,100W. The UCP-900W power supply unit that we are reviewing today is designed to deliver clean, efficient, and stable power for today’s high-end systems.
In addition, the CM UCP 900W PSU is certified by NVIDIA (SLI-Ready) and 80 PLUS (Silver) and it won an Innovation Award at Computex 2008. The UCP 900W power supply features four +12V rails, which Cooler Master claims will provide better power distribution for SLI and two way server applications. It comes with two 8-pin CPU connectors along with four 6-pin and two 8-pin PCI-E connectors for powering the latest generation of work stations and gaming systems.

Establishing an accurate load is critical to testing and evaluating a PC power supply. PCPerspective’s power supply test bench can place a precise 2,000 watt DC load on the PSU under test. Each power supply is tested under controlled, real-world conditions up to its maximum rated load (at 40ºC), using both 115 VAC and 240 VAC line voltage. Our current suite of tests includes:
DC Load Regulation
DC Line Regulation
DC Cross-load (unbalanced load)
AC Ripple and Noise
Power Factor
Efficiency
Differential Temperature
Noise

The CM UCP 900W power supply was evaluated on both features and performance. A full range of equipment was used to test the power supply under controlled load conditions.
