A Detailed Look at the Outside
Note: The installed NZXT Sentry LX Fan Controller is optional but well worth a look (check out our review).
The NZXT Whisper full-tower case features a steel chassis with plastic and aluminum trim pieces which results in an attractive enclosure that is both sturdy and economical to produce. The overall styling is very conservative. The outside is painted matt black to closely match the black plastic front bezel. A large, louvered, hinged door completely covers the front panel when closed. The door operates smoothly and is held closed with small magnets.
The front of the Whisper enclosure features seven external 5.25” drive bays with one 3.5” bay adapter included. A small cutout in the upper left hand corner of the door provides access to the main On-Off and Reset pushbuttons as well as the Power-On and HDD activity lights even when the door is closed.
Located near the bottom of the front panel is the primary intake fan, which blows air into the chassis over the main internal HDD cage. A second intake fan is available from NZXT for the asking (visible in the next picture) if you want more airflow. Louvers in the front door allow air to pass through the door and into the case.
The front bezel can be completely removed (snaps into place) for access to the front of the drive bays, cleaning fan filters, etc.
Both of the solid side panels are removable and lined with 10mm thick noise dampening foam pads. The left side panel is secured with two thumb screws while the right side panel is secured with machine screws.
