IOMeter – Average Transaction Time
Here we see the increased cache at play again. The WD20 nearly matches the faster spinning SE16 across the board. A point of interest not reflected by the graphs was that peak transaction time on drives with write caches can reach 5-6 seconds under heavy read/write access. This means unwritten data can be ‘in flight’ for nearly 3x the average values seen here. Just something to think about when purchasing your next Uninterruptable Power Supply :).
I learned a lot here but have
I learned a lot here but have not yet been able to open my case. Fortunately, I’ve lost no data. All my losses have been the backups of data on internal drives. Ironically, the backup drives failed, never the drives they were protecting. I intend to buy a replacement, but never again a Western Digital. I have two Maxtors running four & two years respectively. My next purchase will be another Maxtor.
