Getting inside the Thecus N5200, though completely unnecessary for normal use, starts by removing some thumb screws on the back and taking off the panel revealing the surprisingly LOUD 100mm fan.

Powering the Thecus N5200B is an Intel Celeron ULV processor and Intel chipsets.  There is a custom Linux operating system powering the whole thing with only 256MB of RAM.

The drive bays will only fit 3.5-in hard drives with screws attaching through the bottom of the tray.

Because the Thecus NAS uses a fixed SATA backplane (as all NAS devices do) you must use standard form factor hard drives.  There is really only one drive that doesn’t fall into that category: the first iteration of the Western Digital VelociRaptor.
