OCZ will apparently be the first to market with approved 80 Plus Gold power supplies – available in the month of June.  The new OCZ Z-series of PSUs offers 90% efficiency (the requirement for Gold status) with power ratings of 850 watts and 1000 watts.

There will be BOTH modular and standard versions of the Z-series available so consumers that prefer one over the other will have that option.  Expect to find the modular version to run you about $15-20 more though.

The price on the 1000 watt until should be about $269; that puts it the Z-series unit at a competitive price all while maintaining the first available 80 Plus Gold rating.  We will definitely be getting one of these units on the test bench soon to see if it lives up to the claims!
