Our stop by the Super Talent booth resulted in some interesting new products including a 128GB USB drive:

Computex 2009: Super Talent PCIe SSD and more - Storage 6

With some help from double stacked memory modules ST was able cram an IMPRESSIVE amount of storage in a small form factor.

Also on display was a 512GB standard 2.5-in hard drive space.  Unfortunately this drive is using a pair of JMicron 602B controllers in a RAID 0 array with a JMicron RAID controller – if capacity is king for you then it might still be the best option.

Computex 2009: Super Talent PCIe SSD and more - Storage 8

The most interesting thing on display was the new RAIDDrive from Super Talent – a custom built PCIe x8 device that can act as a non-bootable storage source.  We don’t have a ton of information on the drive yet, but we did learn that ST is aiming for a price “under $1000” for the 256GB gaming model.  There will be other versions available including a business-oriented ES model that includes a battery for data integrity of the integrated RAID array.

You might also see some 2TB models coming in the not too distant future.

We were able to sneak a couple of performance results from the test bed including CrystalDiskMark above…

…and HDTach here.  Results are impressive for sure though not out-of-the-ordinary for high-end SATA-based RAID cards in terms of raw throughput.  What WOULD benefit dramatically is the access time – notice the 0.1ms result seen here.

I’m sure we’ll have more on this tech and other new SSD info from Allyn soon!
