Of the many joys that our PCs offer, from shotgun troubleshooting to BSODs claiming your IRQ is some sort of lesser being, there is one process guaranteed to put a chill down your spine … BIOS flashing.  Most often it is a motherboard, but even graphics cards and NICs get to offer a bit of excitement, as you watch the blocks fill up hoping that you get an updated system as opposed to becoming the new owner of a very expensive and mostly useless brick.  It can be even more fun when you are working on a system that is old enough to have a few different jumper choices when you simply want to CLRTC much less update the BIOS.  You could always wear protection, but where is the thrill in that?

Join up with the PC Perspective forums and share your stories, we may have a huge archive of past problems and solutions but just as new hardware is always arriving, there are new and interesting frustrations and useful tricks arriving as well.

In the meantime, why not sit back and watch Ryan, Josh, Allyn, Colleen and I in the latest recorded live PC Perspective podcast … we just turned 60!
