Thermaltake currently has seven power supplies in their new Toughpower XT Series, which range in output capacity from 650W to 850 watts and come with either fixed or modular cables  These new models all feature a large 140mm cooling fan, high efficiency, active PFC, quiet operation, and ATX12V/EPS12V compliance.  In addition, the XT Series power supplies incorporate three LED status indicators on the side and a small 3-position switch on the rear to control the cooling fan run delay time.  We will be taking a detailed look at the Thermaltake Toughpower XT Series 850W PSU with cable management (W0230RU) in this review.

PSU Testing Methodology

Establishing an accurate load is critical to testing and evaluating a PC power supply.  PCPerspective’s power supply test bench can place a precise 2,000 watt DC load on the PSU under test.  Each power supply is tested under controlled, real-world conditions up to its maximum rated load, using both 115 VAC and 240 VAC line voltage.  Our current suite of tests includes:

•    DC Load Regulation
•    DC Line Regulation
•    DC Cross-load (unbalanced load)
•    AC Ripple and Noise
•    Power Factor
•    Efficiency
•    Differential Temperature
•    Noise
