3DMark Vantage

In another close battle between our higher-performance cards in this roundup, our 3DMark Vantage winner was the Gigabyte GTS 250. The GTS 250 narrowly beat out the HD 4770 in our overall entry-level tests, but then widened its lead in the brutal performance tests in 3DMark Vantage. The individual graphics scores were also very interesting as the HD 4770 beat out the GTS 250 in the Perlin Noise test, but the GTS 250 was able to crank out a better texture fill rate.
The texture fill rate is calculated differently by ATI and Nvidia. Nvidia holds this rate to be the number of pixel pipelines multiplied by the clock frequency while ATI multiplies the number of texture units by the clock frequency. Both are correct methods as Nvidia has one texture unit per pixel shader unit or one per pixel pipe.
