SSD Roundup: Indilinx vs. Samsung vs. Intel (or why size matters) - Storage 33

Most SSD makers have shifted to smaller packaging, which is a welcome change as it reduces boxing and shipping costs.
Retail packaging was not available for the PhotoFast V4S.

SSD Roundup: Indilinx vs. Samsung vs. Intel (or why size matters) - Storage 35

The P64 and V4S have a flash chip count of 8, half that of the remaining drives.

You may notice specs are missing from the Corsair P64.  When they originally listed their drives, they went with the Samsung ratings of 220/200 MB/sec.  Now their page has a more conservative 180 MB/sec rating for writes, but they apply it across the board, leaving no indication that the 64GB model might be slower, as the Samsung ratings suggest.

An additional point to consider: While the lower capacity (MLC) Samsung and Indilinx units speak to their flash using fewer (4 vs. 8) channels, the Intel units *all* use 10 channels, regardless of capacity.  For a comparison of 80GB (G1) vs. 160GB (G2) Intel units, check out our previous review.
