This rendering benchmark based off of the Cinema 4D engine is a terrific indicator for multi-threaded processing.

Single threaded results show us something very interesting – both Lynnfield CPUs best the Core i7-920 Nehalem part and come within 5-7% of the Core i7-975.  The multi-threaded version of the test again shows the Core i7-870 to be a very good offering coming in just 9.4% behind the i7 -975 though the Core i5-750, without HyperThreading actually falls behind by a larger margin to the Core i7-920 and shows about the same performance as the Core 2 Quad Q9650 and AMD’s Phenom II X4 965. 


POV-Ray 3.7 Beta
POV-Ray has long been the poster child for multi-threaded processing and rendering.

Much like CineBench 10 above, POV-Ray shows its multi-threaded heritage by giving the i7-870 a better chance than the i5-750 to impress.  Here in fact, the i5-750 is actually getting outpaced by AMD’s 965 part and the Q9650. 


Blender

Blender is a free open source 3D engine that is a popular choice amongst college students and small developers.

Blender is another well design, multi-threaded rendering application that sees noticeable gains with the HyperThreading technology of the Core i7 CPUs.
