Final Thoughts
After getting to spend a few weeks using the SG06, I got a good feel for how it worked and cooled my LGA775-based HTPC. Cooling is an important factor in any SFF system, but it’s especially critical for HTPCs that are usually placed in locations that have poor ventilation and cooling. The SG06 only has one 120mm fan, but has vents on every side of the case, which seemed to help tremendously while I was watching Blu-ray movies or just doing some basic internet surfing and e-mail. The optional Blu-ray drive worked beautifully, and can actually be had for less than $70 USD at most resellers.
Availability and Pricing
The Silverstone SG06 is currently available at Newegg.com for $119.99 before shipping. I think the price has increased a bit during the holiday season because I remember seeing it for less than $100 in November. The SG06 is also available at Amazon.com for $119.99 with free shipping and FrozenCPU.com for $119.95 before shipping.
Conclusion
We’d like to thank Silverstone for providing the SG06 mini-ITX case and optional TOB02 Blu-ray slim optical drive for our review today. Each displayed many characteristics that we have become accustomed to from many Silverstone products. These characteristics include quality craftsmanship and outstanding construction and design. If I had any feedback for Silverstone on the SG06, I would definitely like more tool-less features for all the removable cages and for securing PCI devices. I would have also liked at least one more fan to help exhaust heat and increase the longevity of my hardware. But, with the case footprint being so minuscule, I can understand why it would be difficult to add more cooling options. Overall, we were very pleased with the SG06’s overall design, functionality, and cooling properties. The price point is a little steeper during the holidays, but consumers will not be disappointed using it in their home office or home theaters.
