Computation and File Compression Tests
Let’s see how the Intel Core i7 Extreme 920XM performs in some computationally intensive applications.

HiPer Pi calculates the value of Pi to a specified length. In our tests, we compute 4MB worth of Pi and see how efficiently the different systems handle concurrent threads.

Pi computed to 4MB.

The 920XM system starts off promising by beating the older Core 2 Q9650 system in single threaded computation, but then quickly falls behind when more threads are added.

File compression is something most of us do everyday (some of us not even realizing it). 7-zip is an excellent Open Source file compression application that is a good alternative to WinRar (although it does not support creation of RAR compressed files).

Unlike HiperPi, the mobile system performs much better with additional threads and beats both the i5 850 and Q9650, but still well behind the i7-860.
