Appendix – Hard Drive Performance
For your reference, here are some hard drive test results for the Asus G51J. These were not included in the body of the article because of the lack of comparative samples, and the questionable practicality of comparing the G51J spindle drive vs. the SSD Intel X-25 in the Core i7 Extreme 920XM system.
What you can take away here is that the SSDs perform extremely well and is worth the investment if you have the funds. Luckily, the G51J has a two HDD mounting points so you can always add a SSD at a later date.

The Asus G50VT, which is the predecessor to the G51J is superior in my opinion. It has a sexy red trim and that small OLED screen behind the keyboard. It can actually have more single core x86 performance than the G51J thanks to the X9100 Extreme processor, which you can overclock to 3.45, maybe 3.6GHZ 100% stable at full load.
The Forcecon fan is easily replaceable with a few screws, versus the G51J where I’ve heard you have to replace the whole heatsink to replace the fan.
