The BSoD is coming to a phone near you thanks to the efforts of Microsoft who has made a 90 degree turn from their previous mobile efforts, ditching their mobile OS for Windows 7.  The GUI looks like a ZuneHD (if anyone has actually seen one of those in the wild) as opposed to Windows 7 but there is more to this cellphone than that.  Not only can the Windows Phone 7 do everything a Zune can do, you also get a ‘Bing Button’ will get you searching on the web, from XBox you get LIVE games, avatars, and profiles all built into the phone, plus social networking integration.

One decision they did make that will improve peoples opinion of the awkwardly named phone is the list of carriers that will carry plans for the phone which include AT&T, Deutsche Telekom AG, Orange, SFR, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, Telstra, T-Mobile USA, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone and on the hardware side you will see Dell, Garmin-Asus, HTC, HP, LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Qualcomm.  A much better list that a certain other phone.  Drop by Engadget for more on the phone, including shots of the phone in action.

“Windows Phone 7 Series. Get used to the name, because it’s now a part of the smartphone vernacular… however verbose it may seem. Today Microsoft launches one of its most ambitious (if not most ambitious) projects: the rebranding of Windows Mobile. The company is introducing the new mobile OS at Mobile World Congress 2010, in Barcelona, and if the press is anything to be believed, this is just the beginning.”
